The Volvo S60 Will Automatically Brake For You
The new Pedestrian Detection safety technology will prevent you from running people over
Volvo recently announced that its latest S60 model will come with the new Pedestrian Detection safety technology. Volvo S60 is equipped with a radar system in the front grille and a camera inside the rear-view mirror, in which it can automatically detect anything which is in front of it and instantly brakes to prevent you from running over someone.
The radar installed detects any object located in front of the car and determines the distance from the car to it, the camera then functions in identifying what type of object it is. The new technology can detect objects as little as 80cm. tall, approximately the same size of children and taller. At first, the driver receives an audible warning and a flashing light in the head-up display of the windscreen, while the brakes pre-charges. If ever the driver fails to react to the warning given, the high-end car automatically hits the brakes.
The automatic full brake technology of Volvo S60 can also detect vehicles in front which are not moving or are running at the same direction of the car. Its radar has the newly developed dual-mode system which would detect pedestrians early on as they walk on the roadway. The new car applies full brakes at a speed of up to 21mph, if no such reaction is made by the driver on time. When the car is moving faster, however – its state-of-the-art system will try to reduce as much speed as possible to prevent or lessen the impact.
