Light Choices Diet

The Light Choices Diet is a meal plan devised by Tesco Diets. The plan is based on the UK Food Standards Agency’s “Eatwell Plate” concept. The Eatwell Plate is a pie-chart showing the proportions of different food groups that should be consumed as a proportion of each of your meals.

Light Choices takes the fundamental principle of this healthy eating guideline and repackages it as a functional subscription diet wherein participants are provided with weekly meal plans and the means to prepare them.

Light Choices works by providing dieters with three well balanced and nutritionally healthy meals per day plus one snack. The diet works by controlling how much the dieter eats without restricting what they can eat too much. In addition to this, the pre-packaged sandwiches and meals provided and the simple to prepare recipes make participating in the diet plan much easier than other diets that require a lot of planning on the part of the dieter.

The diet also removes the food restrictions of other diets such as the Atkins diet by allowing dieters to swap out meals in their plan and replace them with other choices provided by the program. Certain foods come pre-packed such as the sandwiches while other meals are provided ready to eat. Snacks are often simple and easy in terms of preparation and recipes that require cooking by the participant are of a simple nature.

The flexibility of this diet along with the wide range of available foods and the ease of preparation make it attractive for a large group of potential dieters as it requires the least amount of sacrifices in terms of daily comforts and time expenditure.

While the Light Choices Diet does require a subscription, the peace of mind that it affords can be well worth it for many.

Breakfast

Muesli with fruit & yoghurt

60g of sugar-free muesli.

  • 100ml of semi-skimmed milk.
  • 1 serving of fruit.
  • 1 medium-sized banana.
Lunch

Tesco HL chicken & bacon sandwich

  • 1 Tesco HL chicken & bacon sandwich.
  • ½ bag of Tesco baby leaf salad (120g bag)
  • 2 tsp of low fat salad dressing.
  • 1 packet of Tesco ready salted 30% less fat crisps.
  • 150ml of orange juice.
Dinner

Sweet & sour chicken

Snack

Rye crispbread with hummus

  • 1 rye crispbread.
  • 1 tbs lower fat hummus.
  • 8 cherry tomatoes.
