Nokia E72 Mobile Phone

Its design and proper build quality are not just equally great, but even improved on. The handset comes boxed with a leather case that makes carrying around the device safer, because it does protect it from getting scratched. Aside from it, the box contains a charger, headset, USB cable, hand strap and user guide. One of the qualities of the Nokia E72 that we like best is its dainty design. This is truly appealing business-oriented cell phone that comes with compact size, but emanates reliability. Its display measures 2.4-inches, has QVGA resolution and remains totally useable in direct sunlight, even though the image quality gets rather bad in this case. One of the minor design differences to the Nokia E71 is the integrated optical pad. It features great sensitivity (can be set) and is a fully functional replacement of the standard D-Pad. Still, if you don’t like this particular way of controlling the handset, you can easily turn it off.
The Nokia E72 retains the excellent keyboard of the E71 and we even think the buttons are actually easier to press. They have pronounced, pleasing travel, but unfortunately, their rather small size means you will have to use your fingertips, which in turn disallows faster text entry. The manufacturer has added shortcuts to activate the Bluetooth, silent mode and use the camera flash as flashlight. We do like the altered design of the functional keys and the send and end keys, it makes them easier to use and they look as if made of polished metal.
Around the back of the E72 you`ll find a 5-megapixel camera, supported by an LED flash. There is no dedicated camera key, relying instead on a shortcut button from the homescreen. Thereafter you get pretty average performance, the lack of a real lens soon showing itself. Once you`ve grabbed a photo you can quickly share it using Ovi, Flickr or Vox. Video capture gives you 640 x 480 at 15fps that is not an exceptional quality for sure. Battery life is good however, offering an advantage over its touchscreen contemporaries by giving a couple of days between charges with average use. However, after an intensive day of call, GPS use and browsing, you`ll still need to charge it overnight. If you do plan to abuse the navigation features, you`ll want a charger in your car too.

Sony Ericsson MW600 Bluetooth Headset

The Sony Ericsson MW600 is a bluetooth “headset” that streams audiophile-grade audio from your phone or A2DP device. This small AA-battery-sized device incorporates a microphone for voice-activated commands, an AM/FM radio, and a small OLED display. There is no other Bluetooth device on the market quite like the MW600. Essentially, it will turn any pair of standard 3.5mm headphones into Bluetooth headphones, which can make calls and stream music without touching your phone. It can also turn any pair of speakers into Bluetooth speakers, allowing you to control the music. Pairing is simple and quick – when you turn the device on it`ll automatically start searching. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone – or any other A2DP device, and you should spot MW600 in the list of things to connect to. Select it, and you should be paired – it`s that easy. Once you`re paired, plug in your favourite pair of headphones and you`re good to go. A microphone on the device itself will allow you to chat away to anyone on the phone, and you`ll look like you`re an insane person, talking to yourself, when you`re walking down the street. If you`ve got a Sony Ericsson phone, you`ll be able to send song info to the screen of the device, but most smartphones should also allow you to skip tracks and do voice commands too, albeit with a little bit of delay between you pressing the button and it actually carrying out the action. Holding down the play button brings you to a menu where you can also select to listen to AM or FM radio through the device. We found the navigation to be exceptionally fiddly, but it`s something you`ll get used to in time. Just don`t expect to be able to hand it to your mother and expect her to use it off the bat.
Samsung Wave Mobile Phone

It is the company`s first handset that runs on its new Bada platform. Bada will mean developers can create applications for millions of new Samsung mobile phones. The name bada means ocean in Korean and was said to be chosen “to convey the limitless variety of potential applications which can be created using the new platform”. Samsung says bada is simple for developers to use – “one of the most developer-friendly environments available”. The new Super AMOLED display is staggeringly sharp, with bags of contrast and deep blacks that really give your content definition. It has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, which on a 3.3-inch screen is very impressive. The display also offers wide viewing angles and isn`t prone to the high degree of reflections that some screens are. It incorporates some of the technology that Samsung are putting into their televisions. It certainly sets the bar high for others to follow. The phone has all the necessary connectivity options like HSDPA/CDMA, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, digital compass, motion sensor and proximity sensors. This all sits on a 1GHz processor, making this a fully-fledged smartphone with some real power. That processor and sharp screen means video content looks sensational and watching HD content at 720p poses it no problems. Format support looks good on paper too, with MPEG4, H.263, H.264, WMV, Divx and XviD so it look like a mobile entertainment centre. There are all sorts of applications and features that are loaded into the device, with Samsung providing the framework for more.

HTC Legend Mobile Phone

Like the Nexus One HTC Legend is crafted out of a single block of aluminium that makes it much lighter than the Hero. It also feels better in the hand and is smaller. Since it`s made from one single piece of metal, rather than the frame and body being separate, it can up upscaled and downscaled easily. In terms of hardware, the Legend looks pretty similar to the Hero, except in place of the trackball there`s an optical mouse. The truth is that you might find you never use it because with such a good touch response from the screen you rarely need to. The HTC Legend runs Android 2.1, the latest version of Google`s OS, something that will please the fans. The 3.2-inch AMOLED screen is capacitive, naturally. It`s also super-responsive, as you`d expect from HTC. The camera uses a 5-megapixel sensor, and an LED flash. Although we didn`t get to test the camera stringently, we assume it`ll be on par with that of the Nexus One. HTC has clearly been working hard on its imaging functions, but we`d still like a xenon flash, or dual-LED, despite HTC claiming dual LED is too bright. HTC Sense`s refinements mean Legend is a more comprehensive offering, a step forward, but definitely heading in the same direction. Some of the updates will be coming to the Hero too, but it depends on territory, carrier and so on.

LG GW620 InTouch Max Mobile Phone

The GW620 does bear some traits that highlight its budget origins. The first is its resistive touchscreen. For more on the differences between the touchscreen technologies check out our feature on the subject, but to sum up touchscreen navigation requires a press rather than a light touch. That the GW620 does not feature a stylus suggests that this is a budgeting issue rather than a design choice. For a resistive touchscreen, it’s commendably responsive but still a cut below the capacitive model used in the T-Mobile Pulse. The second obvious cut corner of the LG GW620 is its screen size. At 3-inches, the screen is smaller than almost all other Android phones currently hanging around your local phone shop – although not by all that much. If you are not planning to watch movies regularly on your mobile, the GW620’s screen is more than adequate. And it uses the resolution as top smartphones like the HTC Hero and iPhone. The OS has no modifications then the previous versions of Android Series. This Smartphone leaves you with some very less desirable objects like a bit more from the video capture, a better resolution and more responsiveness. There is predictive text entry, which is great for ironing out mistakes, although if you key the wrong things, you`ll have to press the correct suggestion to input that word. The same predictive text system works for both the QWERTY keyboard and the T9 onscreen keyboard and once you get to know how to use it, it can save you plenty of time.
3G
The GW620 features 3G which stands for third generation, and the system is the third generation in the evolution of mobile networks, after analogue and GSM. 3G offers high speed data transfers and the ability to make video calls between compatible mobile phones.
HSDPA
HSDPA offers a similar benefit to a 3G network that GPRS offered to the GSM networks. It offers a higher speed data transfer with a compatible handset. HSDPA is often referred to as Mobile Broadband.
Wi-Fi
With Wi-Fi you can use your LG phone to connect to a local wireless network (W-LAN) to connect to the internet. This offers a cheap (sometimes free) method of connecting to the net to download emails, files, or check on your favourite website.
GPS
With built in GPS you can use the GW620 to locate your position, plan your journey, and as a general SatNav device, when used in conjunction with compatible mapping software.
Web Browser
With a built in Web Browser you can access internet sites directly from your handset. Check the latest scores, look up train times, get a weather report, or find the answer to the question in the pub quiz. With the inbuilt web browser you have the power of the internet with you, wherever you are.
5.0 Megapixel Camera
Thanks to a built in 5.0 megapixel camera, with auto focus, the LG Android phone takes quality pictures that you will want to share with your friends. Store them in your phone, email them to friends or upload them to your blog or favourite photo sharing site such as Flickr.
Bluetooth v2.0
Thanks to Bluetooth wireless technology, data transmission is quick and easy. And what`s more, with Bluetooth wireless printing, sending images or documents to a compatible printer is child`s play wherever you are, allowing you to produce quality printouts effortlessly.
Music Player
With a built in music player, you can carry your tunes with you, in your pocket, and listen to them when you want. Most digital formats are recognised on the phone, including MP3 and AAC.
HTC Desire Review
HTC Desire delivers intense brilliance, sharp contrast, and true colors on the expansive 3.7-inch AMOLED display. The 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor makes the phone incredibly responsive as you multitask from app to app without skipping a beat, while the instinctive HTC Sense experience lets you wield the power of the HTC Desire with the greatest of ease. The HTC Desire excels at helping you stay in touch with the different circles of friends or colleagues in your life. The new People widget lets you bring any group you create on your phone right to the surface for easy access to calling, messaging, emailing or simply checking up on social networking updates. It simplifies the way that you tend to all of your social networks. With Friend Stream, your interaction with friends across multiple social networks like Facebook ®, Twitter ™, Flickr ™ and are brought into a single, easy to follow a stream of updates, photo posts, and shared links. Friend Stream also lets you shout out your thoughts or feelings to all your online friends with a single comment that gets broadcast to both Facebook and Twitter. There`s also Flash Lite 4 support meaning you can watch videos on the Web from the get go (something you still can`t do on the iPhone) and the ability to select text on the screen to then look it up in Wikipedia or have it automatically translated.

HTC HD Mini Smartphone

The HTC HD mini smartphone utilises HTC Sense, a user experience focused on putting people at the centre by making the cell phone work in a more simple and natural way. This experience revolves around three fundamental principles that were developed by observing and listening to how people live and communicate. These core tenets of Make It Mine, Stay Close and Discover the Unexpected continue to be the key to the new HTC Sense experience. You get a great looking black handset with what appears to be a rubberised backplate and a 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen on the front. the HTC HD mini handset continues the same focus on people-centric communication with complete Outlook integration. It helps you stay close to the important friends and colleagues in your life by providing a single contact view that displays individual communication snapshots of your conversations, regardless of whether it was a call, text, status update or email. HTC’s Windows-based Twitter application, HTC Peep, enables you to tweet and follow your twitter stream.
The Technological Advancements include the usual array of GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, microSD, 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio and of course a Qualcomm chip inside – this time a MSM7227 with a 600MHz processor. There`s a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash around the back for good measure.

Motorola QUENCH mobile phone

The new Motorola Quench Smartphone runs on the Google Android Operating System. It is not yet clear which version, but we expect that the Quench smartphone runs or will run on Android OS 2.1. The Motorola Quench also sports the well-known MotoBlur, Motorola’s own social network service (Facebook, Twitter and MySpace), added to Android. Its operation is fairly fast and quite intuitive. The buttons under the display of the Motorola Quench handset are not very comfortable to use. They are a bit hard to push, and that is a detail that a manufacturer should want to avoid. The Motorola Quench’s reaction time is fast and the touch screen reacts as expected. Motorola Quench smartphone is a middle segment cell phone, beneath the screen you get the usual four controls for home, menu, search and back. These sit either-side of a central four-way controller. We didn`t find any problem with the buttons, they are easy enough to hit when you need them and need a firm enough press to prevent accidental operation. You get a 5-megapixel autofocus camera around the back with an LED flash; video capture is present, but doesn`t step into the realms of HD, offering HVGA at 24fps.

Sony Ericsson Satio Mobile Phone

Sony Ericsson has decided to put the two Walkman and Cybershot brands together in the new Satio. This means an industry-leading camera, a full range of multimedia playback options and it`s based on Symbian S60 5th edition to boot. The overall feel of the handset is odd. Thanks to the sheer range of camera-related gadgetry on board the rear of the phone has a massive camera section bolted to the back, which makes it a little chunky. But weirdly the phone didn`t feel heavy at all – in fact we thought the battery needed to be put in, it was so light, but the power pack was snugly under the cover, so this is pretty impressive. The multimedia experience has been based on Sony`s Xross Media Bar experience found in other Sony Ericsson handsets and more famously on the company`s games consoles. The front of the phone is very minimal – it`s got a call, hang up and menu key, and that`s about it. We would have quite liked to see a cancel/back button too, but that obviously wasn`t on Sony Ericsson`s agenda with the new Symbian OS it`s packing. The 16:9 ratio wide touchscreen display is crisp and glossy, but the internal processor just not beefy enough to cope.

The phone comes packaged in a box shaped like a pyramid with the top chopped off identical to the HTC Diamond and it really is well packaged and looks very enticing. Inside the box is the phone, wired headset, spare stylus, CD ROM with a user manual and extra software, battery, mains charger and a USB cable, all neatly tucked away inside.
The phone feels quite heavy but well made with a lovely quality feel. It is very similar in size to the Nokia N95 and you can see some comparison photographs here.
Looking at the phone from the outside, the front is totally flat it has 4 buttons . Home, back, phone send and end keys and the additional centre button which also works as a virtual scroll wheel for zooming in Opera. From this perspective the phone is identical to the Diamond.
The bottom of the phone has the mini USB connector for charging the device and using the supplied HTC Headset. The bottom right side of the unit gives access to the stylus which is magnetic and there is also a small button to perform the Windows Mobile soft reset. The top of the phone has the on off push button. The sides of the phone are blank on the right side and the volume up and down buttons on the left hand side. The back of the phone houses the 3.2 mega pixel auto focus camera and flash. Again the back cover is angled like the Diamond however on this phone the case has a matt finish rather than the glossy black finger print magnet that the Diamond has.

Play.com is selling the LG GD900 Crystal Sim Free / Unlocked 8.0 Megapixel Mobile Phone for £199.99 instead of its retail price of £399.99
The LG GD900 Crystal is an average-sized handset at 105mm × 52.8mm × 13.5mm (4.1in x 2.1in x .5in), and weighs-in at a fairly typical 120g (4.2oz). It takes on a fairly standard slider form-factor, but with a twist. The lower half of the GD900 is made almost entirely from transparent plastic and tempered glass. This isn`t really that unusual, as we`ve all seen transparent covers for some Nokias in the past, but the GD900`s keypad doesn`t have any ugly electronics inside, so you can literally see straight through it. The keypad lettering and numbers are the only thing to slightly obscure your view, but are mostly invisible when the keypad lights are off. Once the keypad lights up, these markings are much easier to see and the keypad looks very jazzy, especially at night.
The upper half of the LG Crystal is also pretty flashy as it`s clad in a very shiny plastic with a mirrored finish around the display. The result of this is that the whole phone, including the transparent parts, is a fingerprint nightmare. The other downside is that the shiny covering over the front panel gives the display very poor legibility in bright sunlight. It even suffers glare indoors! The display itself is pretty nice though, featuring WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) resolution and the ability to show 16 million colors. The display measures 3 inches across the diagonal and is of the capacitive touchscreen(INFO) variety, which means no stylus is required. Happily, multi-touch is also present, allowing pinch gestures to be made on the screen.
The transparent back cover of the GD900 is tinted at the top, with a gradient towards being fully transparent at the bottom. This means that you can actually see the battery through the rear cover when the device is closed, though the uglier internal parts are hidden. When the device is open, the rear-mounted camera lens for the 8 megapixel camera is unveiled, along with its self-portrait mirror and single LED flash. Just below this is the Crystal`s microSDHCslot, which can accept cards up to 32GB in capacity. The GD900 has 1.5GB of internal memory to start you off.On the right side of the device you`ll find the volume rocker and camera shutter button. On the left side of the device you`ll find just the micro-USB port for charging/headphones/data. Overall, the build quality of the LG GD900 is pretty good, with no creaks or squeaks to speak of, and offers a smooth sliding action. My only complaint is that the transparent half of the phone feels quite cheap, because the rear cover is made of hollow plastic, rather than tempered glass like the keypad.
