AlertMe Energy Electricity Monitor: Saves energy, as well as, your hard-earned money

With the rising costs of energy nowadays, the arrival of AlertMe Energy tool is pretty much right on time. AlertMe Energy device works its wonders through measuring how much electricity you have consumed by simply attaching it to your meter reader. The complete kit comes with a meter reader, a meter transmitter, and a hub. You just have to clip it around any wire which you may find at the bottom of your electricity meter and you are good to go. The amazing thing about it is that it does not only save you money because you can add security features to it – not to mention its upcoming tie with British Gas, its ability to control appliances remotely and the freedom from over-dependency on releasing pollutants in the atmosphere.

Entirely different from some complicated energy monitoring kits out there, AlertMe does not need unscrewing, cable-chopping or any other unsafe installations. Once you set it up on the meter reader, connect it to the transmitter with a 3.5mm jack, hook it to the batteries by pulling out a tab, and the whole process of installation is finished.

The hub, on the other hand, is a much smaller device. It comes with a power socket and an Ethernet port. After you connect it to the mains and into a wireless broadband modem, it will start to update, do some pairing exercise and quietly measure up data on how much energy you are exactly using. The data gathered will then automatically be sent to Google’s PowerMeter service in every 15 minutes. You can then categorise the data in daily, weekly, and monthly bar graphs and find out your maximum and baseline consumption. You can even compare your consumption to the average usage which other households have or examine your development in your historical data.

The web interface of AlertMe gives you detailed information about your current usage, identify your current devices, send you email alerts – if ever you are passed beyond your desired energy consumption. Additionally, it provides you alerts on the approximate cost of the electricity that you have consumed so far. You can also see the connectivity strength of your sensors, their remaining battery life and their temperature. You may also check your electricity on the Internet and turn on or off your appliances equipped with SmartPlugs online.

AlertMe’s kit is priced at £69 one-off, with additional £3 per month (or £30 per year) – which serves as subscription fee to the online service and mobile website. SmartPlugs, accessories – which will let you control your appliances on the Internet – costs at around £25 each. You may also add lamps, cameras, and various sensors – if you want. A security bundle is also offered – if you are willing to add a few additional charge to your bill.
